What types of boilers are there?

Combi Boiler Systems

These are programmed to manage central heating and hot water they are ideal in smaller spaces as they do not require a hot water nor cold water tank.

These are well are suited for older heating systems and larger properties as they have both a cold-water tank in the attic and a hot water tank and can supply hot water and heating on demand.

Heat only

Like the Heat Only except there is no need for a cold-water tank. These are ideal for low water pressure areas.

System only

These work by pumping heat from one place to another, similar to how air conditioners work, only in reverse!  Some heat pumps, called ground source heat pumps, use the ground outside a home whereas Air source heat pumps draw air from outside the home.

What is a ‘Condensing Boiler’?

A condensing boiler runs on gas or oil and is designed to save energy, typically they can achieve 90% energy efficiency. This is done by converting water vapor condensation into heat. They can also recover some of the lost heat from waste gases. Apart from the increased energy efficiency, the only difference between a condensing boiler and a non-condensing boiler is the amount of useable heat it produces.
